Information You Send Directly
A name, phone number, or address entered into a search form is submitted to the outside provider that supplies the results. Our servers do not retain those queries. When someone writes to us, we receive the content of that message and use it only to respond or address the request.
Information Collected by Routine Use
Hosting systems may create standard logs such as an IP address, browser type, pages requested, and access time. We review that information in aggregate for security, maintenance, and page-use trends. Cookies and comparable tools can support basic analytics and, when applicable, advertising measurement.
How Limited Data Is Used
We use the limited data described here to operate the service, diagnose faults, measure traffic, and improve the reference material. We do not sell visitor lists or create individual visitor profiles.
External Websites
Links may lead to Buncombe County and North Carolina portals, library collections, archives, or third-party search services. Those services apply their own privacy practices to information submitted there. That includes sponsored search results supplied by an outside provider.
Who Can Process This Information
Providers that host or support the site can process server-log information for us. Analytics and advertising partners may receive the automatically collected data described above. We disclose information when valid legal process requires disclosure and otherwise do not share it.
Protection and Retention
The site uses an encrypted connection, and logs are retained only for as long as the purposes above reasonably require. There are no user accounts, passwords, or visitor profiles maintained by Asheville Residents Directory.
Visitors Under 18
This reference is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If a minor has sent us information, contact us so it can be deleted.
Your Data Requests
Depending on where a visitor lives, that person may have rights to request access, correction, or deletion of data a website keeps. The project research did not confirm an enacted comprehensive North Carolina consumer deletion law. Because Asheville Residents Directory retains very little, we can check the contact mailbox and applicable logs, then remove what is found when appropriate. Use the Contact page to make a request. Government records held by North Carolina, Buncombe County, or City of Asheville custodians are outside our control; requests concerning those records belong with the responsible office. The North Carolina Public Records Act, N.C. Gen. Stat. Chapter 132, including ยงยง 132-1, 132-6, and 132-6.2, governs access to qualifying existing public records and does not create a universal deletion right.
